Breadsticks with Sunflower Seeds
- DF VG VE
Try fooodlove’s whole wheat breadsticks recipe to try out a snack perfect for nibbling, for lunchboxes, and even for the dinner party table.
Ever find yourself reaching for a bag of crisps when you know that dinner is in the oven, but feel you just can’t wait twenty minutes more?! I definitely do! This recipe for whole wheat breadsticks (kritsinia in Greek) is the perfect, healthier substitute.
A bit like Italian grissini, these breadsticks satisfy your snack cravings but don’t spoil your appetite. We nibble on them whilst watching TV, but they’re also great in lunchboxes, and even on the dining table when you have friends around for supper.

Can I substitute wine with something non alcoholic?
@Jamie you can substitute wine with 100ml of water and 1 tbsp vinegar. 😊
What is the purpose of the wine vinegar in the recipe? I am trying to learn cooking chemistry and understand the reasons for certain ingredients.
@Linda the acidity in the wine (or vinegar) helps to make the breadsticks crispier. 😊
Can I brush the breadsticks with egg white so the sunflowers seeds stick better? I wonder if the taste changes?
@Theodora I haven’t tried it myself, but I think it’s definitely possible! I don’t believe the egg white would change the flavor of the breadsticks. If you decide to give it a go, I’d love to know how it turns out! 😊
