Giouvetsi with Chicken

Enjoy fooodlove’s Giouvetsi with chicken recipe. This traditional Greek recipe combines orzo, chicken, vegetables & tomato sauce for a one-pot winter warmer.

what you'll need
  • 500 g orzo
  • 600 g chicken breast fillet
  • 60 ml olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 leek
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 50 ml red wine
  • 500 g tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 l warm water
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • grated cheese (for serving)

In a deep pot, add the olive oil and sauté the chicken for approximately 8 minutes.

Continue by adding the grated onion, leek, pepper and garlic, and sauté them for another 4 minutes.

Add the tomato paste at the base of the pot and mix it for 1 minute to help remove its bitterness.

Add the wine and stir occasionally until it gets evaporated.

Finally, add the tomato sauce, warm water, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Stir and let them simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the orzo and stir occasionally for 2 minutes.

Pour the mixture in an ovenproof dish and bake in a preheated oven at 180ºC (350ºF) for 20 minutes.

Let it cool for 20 minutes before you serve and sprinkle each serving with grated cheese.
