Greek Pizza Boat (Peinirli)

This Greek version of the family favourite, pizza, is a quick, easy and pretty healthy option that all the family will love, for breakfast lunch or dinner!

what you'll need
  • 300 ml lukewarm water
  • 9 g dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 500 g strong flour
  • 50 g butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 450 g gouda cheese (grated)
  • 150 g ham
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 10 cherry tomatoes
  • oregano

In a small bowl, add the lukewarm water, yeast and sugar. Mix them well to dissolve the yeast and set aside for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.

Add the activated yeast along with the flour, melted butter and salt in a stand mixer and mix for 5-6 minutes in low speed to create the dough.

Oil up a medium bowl using a tablespoon of olive oil and place the dough in it, covered with a kitchen towel for 1 hour to double in size.

Sprinkle a handful of flour in a flat surface, add the dough and divide it in 10 pieces.

Once again, sprinkle some more flour and using your hands and then a rolling pin, spread the dough into a rectangle shape.

Gently start rolling the sides of the dough inwards and pinch together the edges to form a boat shape.

Add the pizza boats (Peinirli) in a baking tray covered with parchment paper and fill them with cheese, ham peppers and tomatoes.

Sprinkle a pinch of oregano in each one and brush their sides with olive oil.

Bake them in a preheated oven at 200ºC (392ºF) for approx 15 minutes or until golden.
